  1. AWESOME! Now I just remembered it was June and I’m bummed…

  2. Oh how I remember!

  3. So I’m getting on to my final flight at 11:00 pm last night, coming home from the stepsister’s wedding. I’m just reaching that age where a lot of folks are getting married, and I’m in a lot of weddings these days. Good social opportunities, but I have to say, it’s an expensive habit having friends in love.
But that aside. I’m walking on to the plane and guess who’s sitting in the last row of first class? Big Sed Ellis. I didn’t even know what to make of it. No one else seemed to recognize him, and I’m sure he was cool with that, so all I could do was lean down and say “We’re all excited.” He was stoked to hear it.
I sat right behind him on the flight, so I chatted with him for a lil bit after we put down. Oddly, walking through the terminal, we talked more about me. “When did you move down?” “Two weeks ago. Internship.” Just that sort of stuff. He’s a genuinely nice guy, and he seemed pleased to take the time to talk about something other than Being a Rookie in the NFL-type stuff. Now don’t get me wrong, he’s a fridge. A wall of muscle. I’m working the door at a club on Bourbon some nights and it definitely put into perspective how little I could do if a man like that started to get fresh. Go for the knees, I guess? He’s huge.
But he’s also – and I can’t believe I’m putting it like this – a really nice young man. He actually introduced himself after I told him my name. All smiles, just a good kid, flying back from visiting the fam in Socal and kicking it in the airport in trainers without a posse or anything like that.
I really like Payton’s emphasis on bringing in high-character guys, and Ellis seems like a perfect addition. Just thought I’d let everyone know that he is without a doubt worth all the welcome we can give him.
Football season is coming. Geaux Saints! Anyone going to the preseason game against the Texans?

  5. what a cool encounter! I love bumping into athletes actually…I live in Phoenix so it’s more of a common situation….it’s weird they either confirm your admirations of them or the completely burst your bubble! I just ran into Larry Fitz a few weeks ago and my bubble was POPPED! He’s on my list, lol! It’s refreshing to know that your favorite athletes are not only decent on the field but off the field as well. I’m dying to bump into J. Vilma, he is my all time favorite athlete hands down…I pray he doesn’t BURST my bubble too….lol!

  6. sorry it’s taken me so long to respond to this awesomeness. (maybe i’m a bit of a hater since my last athlete sighting was jose canseco….and he wasn’t even in the midst of roid rage…ugh!) this is truly awesome, although nola chick dost protect to the fact that you didn’t get his digits so we can get us an interview. still, it’s good to know he’s a good egg.

  7. I know! Walking away I was thinking “The girls would have loved it if I’d gotten his info for them” but the conversation wasn’t long enough to warrant a “Listen, I know these ladies that want your number. Umm… no, I don’t know what they look like, but I think Vilma does?”

  8. Cool, a Deuce video…where does his knee get shredded?

  9. I love 7-9 teams!
