And now, your Sports Headlines:
Will Smith, the other Man in Black, is officially back with the Saints. Smith and the Saints agreed to a six year, $70 million deal. That makes him the third highest paid defensive end in the league. Below are his stats according to the National Post sports ticker.
“Since becoming a full-time starter in 2006, Smith has registered 121 tackles, 17 1/2 sacks, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. In 2006, he had a career-best 10 1/2 sacks and was named to the Pro Bowl.”
You can get the complete scoop on this million dollar man from Jimmy Smith (no relation) at the Times Picayune.
In other news, the Monroe Star is dishing the news on why Rick Mueller really got the boot. The Saints announced two weeks ago that the former Vice President of Player Personnel had been released because the position was being eliminated. Although the team has been mum on the split, GM Mickey Loomis finally released a statement this week on Mueller’s departure.
“I have been contemplating a restructure of the department that provides us with more evaluations from scouts in the field and decided to implement it for this year,” Loomis said in an e-mail to The (Baton Rouge) Advocate. “Rick is a talented football man and should not be a free agent for very long.”
From here on out, the player personnel department will consist of pro and college scouting officials who report directly to the general manager. For the record, the Chicks are completely indifferent about this, until of course the move turns out to be a total bust.
Meanwhile, we want to send a special shout out to all the Saints who took part in the NFL community rebuilding project in Hollygrove. Not only was it a good cause but they looked good doing it. They’ve even got the hot pics to prove it.
